A rare painting of Rupert Bunny’s wife Jeanne Heliose Morel will be a major highlight of Phillip Caldwell’s auction from 11am Sunday at Kimotho, 6 Landale Road, Toorak. Similar to the ones in the National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia, the Rupert Bunny work is one of the finest in private hands and should attract plenty of interest.
Other paintings of note include an early John Brack still life that was originally commissioned but, when the buyer did not provide the money, ended up with the artist’s brother Lindsay. The work is being offered complete with the vase used in the painting.
An important Charles Frodscham blue Chinoiserie triple fusee movement bracket clock originally from the Hall Museum in Perth is another find. Frodscham was appointed clockmaker to Queen Victoria in the mid-1800s and was responsible for Australia’s official timepiece at the Sydney Royal Observatory.
Other items include magnificent Royal Worcester porcelain featuring a large John Stinton highland cattle vase sold by Caldwells five years ago, a rare Hawkins and Charles Baldwyn flying geese creations and Sebright plates.
