Biography of the Collector

A short biography of the owner of this wonderful collection, supplied by one of his daughters:

Gavin, my father, was a local market gardener, growing vegetables and later flowers for many years in Moorabbin, Springvale and surrounding market gardens. After his retirement in 1988 and moving into this home, Gavin travelled throughout Victoria on a mission to buy beautiful things for his new home. His passion was, unsurprisingly, flowers—a testament clearly reflected in the contents of this sale.

He loved colour, flowers and Australian art, purchasing many local works from a wide range of galleries. He also loved vintage and veteran trucks and cars, which evoked fond memories from his childhood. Comfort and style, along with flowers, were important to Gavin, so he furnished and decorated his home to his taste, irrespective of cost, in between travelling, golfing and tending to his beautiful garden at Clarke Road.

Gavin passed away a few years ago, and the family is now offering this eclectic and wonderful collection for sale by auction—mostly unreserved.

Good luck.
